Sensus Expands into Booming Brazil Market with Equity Stake in CAS Tecnologia

Raleigh, North Carolina-based Sensus, which designs smart metering solutions for water, energy and gas utilities, has acquired a 15 percent equity position in CAS Tecnologia (CAS), a 12-year-old São Paulo, Brazil-based developer of software and hardware for advanced metering infrastructure and distribution automation. This strategic investment will offer Sensus easy entrée to Brazil’s dynamic smart grid market.

The CAS Hemera technology platform is a data network monitoring and analysis tool that helps utilities manage complex processes in smart grid and smart water networks. CAS has a comprehensive national footprint in Brazil, with installations in 16 of the country's top 26 power distribution companies

"This is the latest step in our strategic growth initiative, which is to accelerate our presence in targeted markets, expand our offerings in the smart water network and smart grid markets and accelerate the adoption of our core technologies in one of the fastest growing economies in the world," said José António Hernandez, Sensus executive vice president."Given that CAS is the region's leader for smart grid, AMI and distribution automation technology and that our products are highly complementary, we see tremendous opportunities for both Sensus and CAS in the Americas and worldwide."

The partnership also will benefit CAS—enabling the company to expand into electric and water utility markets worldwide with Sensus smart endpoints and communications technologies, such as the two-way FlexNet wireless network infrastructure."Without question, our partnership with Sensus puts us in a unique position to take advantage of quickly developing smart grid and smart water opportunities worldwide," said Welson Jacometti, president of CAS. "We foresee great potential in markets where Sensus is an established utility solutions leader. Our partnership—by offering communications, metering technologies and business analytics—will improve operational and distribution efficiency for our valued utility customers around the world."

In addition to its offices throughout North America, Sensus already has a wide presence in Europe, as well as China and Malaysia.  To see a video on Sensus Utility Network Services, click here.
