Trying to grow its footprint in the green industry like a budding rose, BMW is attempting to maneuver its way to the forefront of all next-generation earth-saving technology with its just-unveiled electric bikes. What could be better than an electric way of getting around that also gives you some much needed exercise? A bike that folds up with ease into the back of your brand new M3, or whatever you happen to be driving nowadays.
While I am kidding around about the extremely quick and rather expensive M3, the carmaker’s electric i3 vehicle has been designed specifically to accommodate these bikes, with two designated spots that are in addition to a full trunk that can be filled with whatever your heart desires.
The sleek looking i Pedelec bikes boast 200-watt electric motors that will enable riding enthusiasts to cruise at around 16MPH, as well as help you up those big, daunting hills. These ultra cool bikes will even store energy that has been gathered while braking or riding down hills, and can also be folded into a compact bundle weighing in at 44lbs – equivalent to the weight of a small child.
A downside highlighted in a recent piece in regards to the i Pedelec reveals that this bicycle lacks any time of storage area, which can be used to hold a briefcase or any other item you wish to carry with you in a secure manner. So prepare yourself for your joy ride by packing up your backpack!
Currently, 200 i Pedelecs will be deployed in an effort to promote the upcoming 2012 Olympics in London, a not-to-miss event that has selected BMW as its only vehicle supplier. With the option to purchase the i3 car which will hold your two- wheeler at a pretty staggering $56,000, you can bet this green mode of transportation will not be available for those whose pockets are anything less than filled to the brim with green.
