Tata Power Urges Customers to Go Paperfree and Adopt E-billing

Lowering your carbon footprint can be as simple as reducing your paper usage. An incredibly easy way to do this is to switch to paperless billing, a service that many banks and utilities firms now offer. Now, customers of Indian integrated power company Tata Power can switch to e-billing completely, killing off their old paper bills for good.

The company has launched e-bills in light of its commitment to superior customer care and pledge to environment conservation. Customers can now receive and view bills online as well as make payments over the Internet.

Although Tata’s paper bills are made from 100 percent recycled paper, the firm’s push for sustainability is being given an extra kick. It’s now urging customers to stop using paper bills altogether to contribute towards environmental conservation.

Tata says it launched e-bills to help customers get information in a way that’s convenient to them and to enable them to carry out transactions online.

Tata’s Greenolution project highlights processes and initiatives the company has undertaken to ensure a greener and more sustainable environment for everyone. The company is putting a number of sustainability efforts, practices and programs in place to involve its employees and customers in the green “movement.”

“It’s our endeavor to constantly innovate and provide services to exceed customer expectations,” S Padmanabhan, executive director of operations at Tata Power, told The Financial.

Earlier this month, shares in Tata dipped two percent after northwestern Indonesia was struck by a magnitude 8.7 quake. The company owns coal assets in the country.

It remains to be seen what kind of impact Tata’s paperfree drive will have. Perhaps it might opt to run a promotional campaign akin to Wells Fargo’s (News - Alert) in the future to encourage customers to make the switch.
