GalaxyVisions and ColoGuard have announced that the conservation initiatives they undertook for their data center, customers and environment has paid off. According to officials, they were able to bring down the air conditioning usage for their shared data center by 75 percent- which resulted in savings for customers and reduced their carbon footprint.
GalaxyVisions owns and runs its own datacenters while ColoGuard is a privately-held managed colocation service with an in-house data center. Both the companies are New York region’s most affordable and customer-focused providers of Web hosting and colocation solutions.
From 2001 to 2006, data centers around the United States consumed 61 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity - 1.5 percent of the nation’s total. By 201, that amount was expected to double unless action was taken.
In 2010, GalaxyVisions and ColoGuard’s 15,000 sq. foot data center was equipped with a new kind of air cooling technique. The air was drawn from outside into the datacenter through an advanced filtration system to be used for cooling the facility. Even with spring-like temperatures, the companies began seeing huge advantages to their green campaign. They have not only reduced their carbon footprint but are also generating real savings that they can invest in their business and pass on to customers in the form of the most affordable rates in the industry.
“These changes are a perfect example of a win-win situation. The business and customers realize savings along with the community and the planet”, said Ruben Magurdumov, vice president of Operations at ColoGuard.
