Tetronics, Solar Applied Materials Join to Use Plasma Tech for Refining Electrical Waste



Tetronics, a supplier of Direct Current (DC) plasma waste recovery plants for the treatment of hazardous waste and metal recovery, announced that it has inked a partnership with Solar Applied Materials (News - Alert) Technology Corp.

Solar Applied Materials Technology Corp. specializes in precious metal and rare material refining. This alliance will enable investigation of opportunities for utilizing Plasma technology, for the extraction of valuable metals from Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) sources and industrial/auto catalysts in the far eastern countries.

In a release Dr Ma, chief operating officer for Solar said, “We are not simply buying a plasma solution, we are more importantly building on an already strong partnership with Tetronics that will see us leveraging other spent catalyst and related opportunities in Taiwan, China and further afield. Tetronics’ support has been essential to the Solar team and will be instrumental in progressing these opportunities going forward.”

“The refining technology is of course important to us, and we are confident that Tetronics’ plasma solution provides higher levels of technical recovery than any competing technology,” added Dr Ma.

It was also revealed that the installation of the first Plasma plant has started in Taiwan, which will recover Precious Metals (PMs) including Platinum Group Metals (PGMs). The extracted material can be then sent for final refining. The patented Plasma technology will also destroy any hazardous organic material, like dioxins that may be present in the waste material.

We believe our plasma technology is ideally suited to support Solar in their continued rapid growth plans.”

Company officials explained that the process chemistry in Tetronics’ plasma recovery technology can symbiotically and preferentially separate and recover the valuable material in electronic waste besides getting rid of hazardous components.

Following the recovery of valuable material the remaining non-valuable material is vitrified into an inert, safe, disposable, non-hazardous material, called Plasmarok through a single processing step. Plant longevity is ensured owing to the strong construction and minimal number of moving components. The recovery process is a suitable solution for electrical waste management problems.
