Ricoh (News - Alert) Europe, a provider of office solutions, managed document services and production printing, announced the launch of eco-board, a billboard powered by 100 percent wind and solar power.
Leveraging the dual natural sources of power, the Ricoh eco-board will illuminate only when sufficient power is collected. The new product is in line with the company’s long term commitment to sustainable business.
The company has set up the European eco-board on the M4 motorway which runs from London to London Heathrow airport. There are 96 solar panels and 5 individual wind turbines to power the eco-board. The board forms an important part of Ricoh’s overall commitment to raising environmental awareness in the region.
Travelers across Europe journeying into the heart of London will pass the eco-board which carries Ricoh’s Managed Document Services message – the company’s sustainable approach to streamlining business processes and document workflows.
“Our ethos is to go beyond simply meeting regulatory requirements relating to sustainability by proactively promoting environmentally responsible practices in our own business and for our customers,” said Steve Saito, chairman and CEO of Ricoh Europe, in a statement.
“The launch of the eco-board takes us one step further by reminding wider public audiences to act in a sustainable way and think beyond the obvious when it comes to protecting natural resources,” Saito added.
Ricoh has been looking at reducing its carbon footprint for decades. The company already achieved zero waste to landfill at European factories back in 2001. It is also focusing on encouraging other businesses to adopt sustainable business models that can better cities, countries and planet while improving productivity and profits.
Recently, Ricoh introduced its new eWriter Solution, a business-class tablet and back-end services designed to improve business efficiencies by moving paper processes online. The company also announced that the device and services will be offered through its new business unit, Ricoh eWriter Solutions.
