Sharp Wins Evergreen Award from U.S. General Services Administration

Sharp Electronics Corporation has been awarded the “Evergreen Award” by the U.S. Government’s General Services Administration (GSA) National Furniture Center (NFC), in the category of Technologies and Electronics.

 

The Evergreen Award is granted to the government contractor that demonstrates the highest overall commitment to environmentally sound manufacturing and operating procedures. According to company officials, Sharp was one of only three companies awarded this year, as top environmentally conscientious business partners for their efforts in recycling, affirmative procurement and waste reduction.

 

“These GSA awards signify that Sharp is at the forefront of environmental responsibility,” said Toshihiko Fujimoto, CEO and chairman at Sharp Electronics Corporation, the U.S. sales and marketing subsidiary of Sharp Corporation.

 

He also claimed that his company’s commitment stands strong in developing environmentally conscious products and services while conducting business in an environmentally advanced manner throughout the world.

 

Sharp Electronics Corporation works closely with the GSA NFC to provide copiers and LCD display products for the Federal Government as well as state and local government agencies. The GSA provides federal agencies with information technology, telecommunications, electronics and office space.

 

Talking about his company’s global commitment to the environment, Fujimoto said that

Sharp aims to reduce its worldwide greenhouse gas emissions to the extent that, by fiscal 2010, the quantity of greenhouse gases Sharp emits that year will equal the quantity of greenhouse gases avoided through the use of Sharp energy-saving products and the use of the solar cells Sharp has sold during the previous 20 years. Also, the company is focusing on development and use of solar electricity.

 

Sharp was also recently recognized by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which awarded Sharp its “SmartWay Excellence Award” for conserving energy and lowering greenhouse gas emissions from transportation and freight activities.
