A collaborative effort with GreenFuel Technologies, has been revealed by INDYCAR. The organization’s top position in eco-friendly racing is therefore further enhanced, as GreenFuel Technologies is an alternative energy company. Unique and innovative energy solutions utilizing environmentally sound methods are developed by GreenFuel.
INDYCAR is the governing body of the IZOD IndyCar Series, Firestone Indy Lights and Mazda Road to Indy. A program designed to reduce energy consumption at each IZOD IndyCar Series event will be operated by INDYCAR, in collaboration with GreenFuel. The series' green initiatives in the future will be also defined through this collaboration.
In a release, Terry Angstadt, president of the commercial division at INDYCAR said, “Switching to 100 percent fuel grade ethanol in 2006 was the first step in INDYCAR's commitment to leadership in eco-friendly racing. Our partnership with GreenFuel gives us the chance to strengthen that commitment as well as strongly encourage our teams and corporate partners to join the cause.”
According to Angstadt, the organization hopes to inspire fans to make smart choices in their purchases and practices through INDYCAR’s green efforts. INDYCAR also hopes that fans will consider how their actions will impact the world’s energy resources.
Educating INDYCAR's network of fans, sponsors and racing teams will be the focus of the partnership's Race to Energy Independence program or R2EI. The program which will be introduced in phases will provide education on responsibility, innovation and clean technologies.
A mobile educational facility and technology center will be included in the first phase, including interactive kiosks capable of mapping a person's environmental profiles will be hosted by GreenFuel. Energy efficient alternatives will be also offered by GreenFuel. IZOD IndyCar Series events in Sonoma and Las Vegas to be held later this year will include a GreenFuel center.
John Casey, CEO of GreenFuel said, “GreenFuel wants to introduce fans to technologies that reduce energy costs while minimizing their environmental impact on the planet. We are committed to building a better environment for ourselves and future generations. We believe the path to an ecological and economical balance lies in informed choices about renewable energy solutions.”
