Cincinnati Bell Pioneering the Convergence of Energy and Telecom by Launching Green Energy Service

Cincinnati Bell (News - Alert) Energy, a Cincinnati, Ohio based provider of affordable, green retail energy, has partnered with Viridian Energy, a socially-responsible retail energy supplier that provides greener electricity at an affordable price. The partnership with Viridian Energy will allow Cincinnati Bell to deliver a service package including energy, entertainment, internet and phone that is 100 percent green. According to Cincinnati Bell, the service is the state's first green energy option offered at a discount to the local utility.

According to a press release, this collaborative effort makes Cincinnati Bell the first telecom provider to offer retail energy supply along with other services. The marriage between telecom and energy is a dramatic first for both industries

“The retail energy market is an exciting and rapidly growing space, and this convergence between telecom and energy is a dramatic first for both industries. This innovative partnership with Viridian Energy provides substantial value to our customers, saving them money and helping them contribute to a cleaner environment,” Ted Torbeck, president and general manager of Cincinnati Bell Communications, commented in a statement.

Under the collaboration, the company will offer green retail energy to its customers in southwestern Ohio, where Cincinnati Bell Energy's rate for green energy will be offered at a guaranteed annual savings over the utility's rate.

In the release, Cincinnati Bell claimed that its offers 100 percent green energy, regionally sourced from regionally sourced from wind power and has been certified by Green-e Energy. The green energy does not only create environmental benefits, it also impacts the economy of the region in a positive way.

“Telecom is a dynamic and ever-evolving industry that has proven its ability to continually reinvent itself and adapt to changing customer needs. The launch of an affordable, green energy solution is the next natural progression in the telecom industry's legacy of delivering excellent products and services to its customers, and Cincinnati Bell Energy is establishing the leadership position in this movement. We are proud to be affiliated with a partner that helps broaden our company's mission to provide affordable green energy to retail customers,” founder and CEO of Viridian Energy Michael Fallquis explained in a statement.

In February, Viridian Energy announced the launch of its services in New York City and the surrounding area.
