Interxion Paves Way for 100 Percent "Green Data Centers"

Interxion (News - Alert), a premier Pan-European provider of carrier neutral colocation data services, has furthered its commitment to “Go Green” by converting its Belgian data center to use energy only from renewable sources.

As a result of such an initiative, the data center will be utilizing only hydroelectric, wind and solar power for all its requirements.

In a press release, Interxion Belgium’s Managing Director Frederik Dewulf stated, “This move to 100% green energy further reflects our commitment and reassures our customers that we always endeavor to provide the most energy-efficient environment, whether that be through the power we offer or the overall design of our sites.”

Located in Brussels, the 5,000 square-feet facility works off a 15 MVA grid connection. Interxion has 28 data centers throughout Europe and serves 1,200 customers. Its uniformly designed, energy-efficient data centers offer customers extensive security and uptime for their mission-critical applications.

Interxion's green initiative will set an example of good energy efficiency and sustainability practices. As more businesses migrate to the cloud, it becomes incumbent on Interxion to provide services in energy-efficient environments.

Interxion has participated as a Contributor Member of The Green Grid (News - Alert) for two years and played an important role in a number of projects. It has contributed to the development of practical universal metrics for energy and power efficiency within data centers and business ecosystems.

In addition to its activities with the Green Grid, Interxion is also a founding member of the Uptime Institute’s European Chapter and a member of the European Commission's DG Joint Research Committee on Sustainability and its European Data Centre Code of Conduct Metrics Group.

In related news, Interxion also developed an Energy Efficiency Roadmap Seminar, which took place in September 2010 and featured speakers from The Green Grid, The Uptime Institute, APC (News - Alert) by Schneider Electric, and the European Commission DG JRC.
