Totally Green, Inc., a pioneer in organic food processing systems and compostable packaging alternatives, has installed its revolutionary ORCA Green Machine at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The hospital purchased the ORCA Green Machine to reduce disposal costs of organic food and enhance kitchen operational efficiency. The ORCA Green Machine will be installed in the main cafeteria at Saint Francis Hospital, which currently serves approximately 1,600 patients, staff, and visitors per day.
ORCA Green is an alternative to traditional waste disposal – a self-contained bioreactor. Anything that goes into your stomach can go into the ORCA, which uses natural microorganisms to decompose up to 2,400 pounds of food waste per day. The end product is nutrient-rich grey water (similar to compost tea) that can safely be disposed of through the sanitary sewer system. The product has been in use overseas for several years.
“Totally Green's ORCA Green Machine enables the hospital to expand on its sustainability practices by reducing the amount of organic food that enters U.S. landfills thus decreasing the amount of harmful methane gas emitted into the environment,” the hospital commented in an official statement.
“The addition of Saint Francis Hospital to our existing healthcare services pipeline demonstrates an increased validation of our ORCA Green Machine technology,” said Rob Phillips, president of Tulsa-based Totally Green. “We are seeing an escalating level of interest from major players in the healthcare services sector as the sales momentum continues with our ORCA Green Machine.”
Recently, Totally Green installed its ORCA Green Machine in the main kitchen at the University Hospital - St. Paul of the University of Texas, or UT, Southwestern Medical Center.
The University Hospital - St. Paul purchased the ORCA Green Machine to establish an on-site rapid food composting solution for its employee and patient base. The hospital currently serves more than 2,300 meals per day between its patient room service and main dining facility.
During the first quarter, Totally Green continued to transition from the developmental stage to increasing product commercialization,” said Phillips. “We installed nearly twice the number of our revolutionary ORCA Green Machines in the first quarter versus the previous quarter, and we're on track to double this again by the end of the current second quarter.
