Landis+Gyr Signs Contract with Hydro-Quebec

Global energy management solutions provider Landis+Gyr has signed a C$350 million contract with North American utility Hydro-Quebec.

Landis+Gyr has been contracted to deploy the next generation digital smart meter network for the utility and this will improve its grid reliability and bring utility operational efficiencies.

The installation of Landis+Gyr's Gridstream RF two-way communications infrastructure will allow Hydro-Quebec to collect usage, voltage and power quality data.

This contract will thus allow consumers to monitor energy consumption in real time.

As per the agreement, Landis+Gyr will supply FOCUS AX meters for 80 percent of the 3.75 million meters deployed by Hydro-Quebec.

In addition, it will also provide a data management system, associated software, service and support to the utility.

Deployment has not yet begun and is scheduled to commence later this year. Project is expected to be completed between 2012 and 2017.

"We are proud to partner with Hydro-Quebec, a utility that has long been a leader in renewable energy and energy efficiency," said Landis+Gyr North American CEO Richard Mora. "The desire of Hydro-Quebec to install technology that provides access to the benefits of the smart grid for their customers is exciting, and further demonstrates their leadership in delivering quality customer service."

"While the scope of work and final details of future Canadian operations are still in the early days," added Mora. "I am confident that with Hydro-Quebec's support, we can and will make a positive local impact."
