Provider of semiconductors for wired and wireless communications Broadcom Corp. is demonstrating its latest StrataXGS BCM56840 10/40 GbE switch series at a trade event.
Building on the innovation of the BCM56840 series, the latest StrataXGS BCM56846 switch provides a 200 percent increase in layer 2/layer 3 network address and virtual switch ports scalability.
In addition, it also offers support for the latest IEEE (News - Alert) data center networking specifications, and a 20 percent reduction in power consumption, according to company officials.
Company officials said that data center switch systems -- built using the BCM56840 series -- have been broadly deployed by prominent OEMs targeted for cloud computing, web 2.0, financial services, high performance computing (HPC) and business analytics applications.
The company continues to drive innovation in enabling green networks with the industry’s broadest portfolio of Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) devices. This “significantly” reduces energy costs and CO2 emissions, said company officials. With the company’s AutoGrEEEn technology, system designers can reduce power consumption in the physical layer of the network by 70 percent or more.
Additionally, Broadcom (News
- Alert) is showcasing its converged network adapter with record-setting FCoE performance of over 1.7 million input/output operations per second (IOPS), based on its BCM57712 converged network adapter (CNA) platform, and also iSCSI performance of over 1.1 million IOPS on the same device.
In addition to FCoE and iSCSI, the BCM57712 supports EEE and features server-class reliability, availability, and scalability, coupled with dynamic, robust manageability, said company officials.
Earlier this month, Broadcom announced acquisition of security software developer SC Square Ltd. for $41.9 million in cash.
