Through a recent press release, communication giant Verizon (News
- Alert) proudly announced that by using its e-billing solution, one of its major clients has been able to significantly reduce its carbon footprint.
In the press release, Verizon said that one client, International Specialty Products Inc, a global provider of specialty chemicals and products for various industries, opted for Verizon e-billing solutions and replaced the majority of its invoices with online billing. This allowed ISP to eliminate more than 80 of its invoices each month, resulting in an improved operational and cost efficiency.
Traditional telecommunication bills lead to wastage of papers and unnecessary consumption of energy, as bills are transported from one location to another. By adopting an e-billing option for their companies, enterprises can help prevent paper and energy wastage to a significant extent. This will help streamline their business procedures too. According to Verizon, a switch to e-billing enabled Verizon customers to eliminate more than 290 tons of paper yearly.
E-billing has other benefits as well. E-bills are easy to handle and more secure too. The e-billing solution enables customers to efficiently analyze data and create reports. Additionally, customers are allowed to access Verizon's Global Billing report, which is available in 10 languages. This helps customers to streamline operations efficiencies and increase productivity.
Verizon e-billing solutions are provided via the Verizon Enterprise Center, an online customer portal where customers can provision, manage, order and pay bills for their wireline and wireless services. The service is available via secure access 24/7.
“Paperless bills are more useful to our customers in terms of both business and green benefits. In addition to meeting their environmental goals, companies like ISP can make more informed decisions about their communications and information technology spending by analyzing billing data in a user-friendly digital format,” executive director of Verizon's e-commerce and digital customer enablement, Mark Chodoronek, noted in a statement.
In the release, Verizon said money that companies can save because of the e-billing, are often spent on philanthropic causes. For each of its customer's billing accounts that have been converted to paperless billing, Verizon has donated funds to the American Forest's Global Releaf program. Since 2007, more than 100,000 trees have been planted under the initiative. In 2010, 70,000 trees were planted.
Under another green initiative, Verizon Wireless (News - Alert) is offering its customers several options for recycling their old devices. Under the program, HopeLine from Verizon collects devices and accessories at the company's 2,000 Communications Stores nationwide or by mail to help victims of domestic violence. The collected phones are refurbished or recycled in an environmentally sound way.
