The Engine Repower Council suggest that vehicle owners repower their vehicle engine instead of buying a new engine when the engine gives trouble, as it is cost-effective as well as a ‘green’ way. In the repowering process, a vehicle's engine or an identical engine from another similar vehicle is fully cleaned, disassembled, machined and then rebuilt. These repowered engines are more reliable and offer an excellent warranty when compared to used or junkyard engines. The rebuilding of engines saves an enormous amount of energy involved in processing discarded engines, as well as a significant quantity of raw materials that are required to build a new engine.
In a release, Ken Carter, chairman of the Engine Repower Council, said that “When it comes to your vehicle, it's great to be green. By repowering the vehicles we already own, we extend their useful lives and significantly reduce their impact on the environment. Repowering also makes the vehicle more fuel efficient which reduces operating costs and harmful emissions, further helping to protect our planet. Engine repowering is not only an environmentally sound decision, but it lets you keep more 'green' in your wallet. For the cost of an average down payment on a new car or truck, you can repower your current vehicle, gaining years of reliable service and improved fuel economy all without monthly new car payments and higher insurance rates.”
Rebuilding engines will also help fix the problems encountered in the new original engines by redesigning or replacing with better quality parts, and hence are better than the original new engine of the vehicle. The excellent warranty programs of repowered engines usually cover installation costs.
The Engine Repower Council, a non-profit organization, is committed to educating consumers on the environmental as well as the economic benefits of remanufactured or rebuilt engines. It supports a consumer education campaign named “Be Car Care Aware (News
- Alert).”
