TD Bank Opens First Green Stores in Maine

TD Bank is looking to become as green as possible. The bank is preparing to celebrate the opening of its first two "green" stores in Maine. As Earth Week approaches, the bank has made an announcement stating that its 60,000-square-foot Auburn Call Center has been awarded the LEED-CI Platinum certification, which is the highest level in the LEED-CI green building certification system. It the first structure in the Pine Tree State to receive that ranking.

In a release, Larry World, Maine Market President, TD Bank said that "We're incredibly excited about the upcoming grand opening celebrations of our two new green stores in Bangor and Portland. As a company, we have a lot to be proud about this week. Learning that the Auburn Call Center achieved LEED-CI Platinum certification is a tremendous accomplishment for TD Bank, our employees, our customers and the community."

Both of these new stores located at 878 Stillwater Avenue in Bangor and at 1410 Congress Street in Portland have been constructed based on TD Bank's new green prototype store design standard. These two stores will target LEED certification based on their overall environmental performance in five areas: recycled materials and resource use, indoor environmental air quality, the use of sustainable sites, low water usage and energy efficiency.

Jacquelynn Henke, TD Bank's Real Estate Green Strategy Officer said that "In 2010 we became the largest U.S.-based bank to be carbon neutral by building LEED-certified stores and offices, and making continuous significant investments in renewable energy. Achieving LEED-CI Platinum certification for our Auburn Call Center is a win for the environment and a win for TD Bank's sustainability initiative."

On Saturday, April 30, the grand opening celebrations for both these new stores will take place between 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The opening parties at both locations are free and open to the public, and will have DJ and music, free food and giveaways, games and prizes, including a chance to win a $1,000 shopping spree, a ribbon cutting ceremony at noon (12 p.m.) along with donation presentations to local organizations from the TD Charitable Foundation.
