GreenTouch Consortium to Conduct Open Forum on Sustainable Networks and Climate Change in Seoul

The GreenTouch Consortium, an international consortium of academic and industrial research institutions, non-governmental organizations, and leading service providers, is organizing an Open Forum on ‘Sustainable Networks and Climate Change’ at the Seoul National University Advanced Institutes of Convergence (News - Alert) Technology on April 8, 2011.  


The Open Forum will be held after the Consortium’s Members Meeting scheduled between 6 April and 8 April, 2011 at the Seoul National University. The GreenTouch Consortium is an international research initiative that mainly caters to increasing the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) networks’ energy efficiency by a factor of 1,000.

The Open Forum will have a seminar on the GreenTouch Large-Scale Antenna System, which is a proof of concept technology that is capable of achieving tremendous energy savings using innovative applications of wireless transmission techniques. The Consortium will also discuss about the scope of its main projects. Two sessions will be conducted by industry experts, with seminars on eco-sustainability, energy-efficient network technologies, climate change and associated topics. Although the Open Forum is free of charge, the attendees need to register in advance at http://www.greentouch.org/events.

In a release, Gee Rittenhouse, GreenTouch Consortium chairman and vice president of research at Alcatel-Lucent (News - Alert) Bell Labs said that, “This is a very exciting time to be involved with GreenTouch. The consortium is growing rapidly as new members join and the research projects being undertaken by our various working groups are putting us on track to meet our goal. We look forward to sharing our knowledge and progress at this Open Forum session.”

The presenters at the Open Forum will include Rittenhouse , Dr. Yuan-Kuang Tu of Chunghwa Telecom (News - Alert); Greg Wright of Alcatel-Lucent; Professor Rod Tucker of the University of Melbourne; Professor Yung Yi of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST); Professor Zhisheng Niu of Tsinghua University; Yasuyuki Sugiyama of NTT (News - Alert) Energy and Environment Systems Laboratories; Dr. Yan Chen of Huawei and Laurent Herault of CEA-LETI.

In other news, Alcatel-Lucent Bell Labs (News - Alert), Thales and CEA-Leti announced that CEA-Leti has joined the III-V Lab in a move to strengthen the industrial research capabilities of the R&D center.According to a release, the new public-private partnership will combine III-V semiconductor and silicon technologies, opening up new research perspectives and dynamics. The enlarged III-V Lab will include more than 130 researchers, technicians, and doctoral candidates.
