According to a recent report from Pike Research titled “Green Data Centers”, global investment in energy efficient data center technologies to reach 28 percent of the $150 billion data center infrastructure market. Although in the past, energy consumption was considered as a priority in the data center, the growth of the organization has led the cost of information technology to become increasingly visible across a wide variety of industries.

By examining the green data center trends, the cleantech market intelligence firm has forecasted the size and growth of the market opportunity by region and technology over the next five years. Some of the key factors strengthening green data center that are analyzed in the comprehensive report include power and cooling infrastructure developments, server, storage, network technology as well as software management systems. So as to create energy efficient data centers, the study also includes strategies of key players relative to market approach, technical innovations, as well as internal efforts.

In a release, senior analyst Eric Woods said, “The green data center has evolved in response to concern over energy use, but it is also connected to the broader transformation that data centers are undergoing. Data centers of the future will be more energy efficient, more adaptable to new business needs and new technology opportunities, and virtualized to ensure optimal use of IT resources, space, and energy.”

In other news, a recent report from Pike Research (News - Alert) forecasts that, during the period from 2010 to 2020, cumulative European investment in smart grid technologies will reach $80.3 billion. The cleantech market intelligence firm anticipates that smart grid revenue in Europe will peak at $9.8 billion in 2017 before declining somewhat to $9.1 billion by 2020. Smart grids are an essential element in realizing the vision of a low-carbon Europe that, by 2050, will have reduced its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions dramatically and will have almost completely ended its dependence on fossil fuels.
