Interxion Signs Comprehensive Carbon Offsetting Partnership with myclimate

Interxion, a provider of carrier-neutral colocation data center services for Europe, has recently announced that its Interxion (News - Alert) Switzerland has signed a comprehensive carbon offsetting partnership with myclimate.

myclimate is a Switzerland based, non-profit foundation. Interxion is the first data center operator to launch this program which will enable Interxion Switzerland to provide its customers with 100 percent carbon-neutral colocation services by offsetting any unavoidable CO2 emissions through a range of climate protection projects in Europe and the developing world.

The customers of Interxion will receive a myclimate climate neutral certificate, which can be applied to their data center infrastructure as part of their environmental impact assessments.

In a release, the CEO of myclimate, Ms. René Estermann, said that, “We very much welcome Interxion’s efforts to minimise its environmental footprint and to offset remaining carbon emissions through myclimate-sponsored projects. It is key to the environmental cause that organisations like Interxion and their customers set an example and demonstrate their sense of responsibility and take appropriate measures in order to reduce the carbon footprint accepted with ICT infrastructure.”

myclimate provides voluntary carbon offsetting in high-quality carbon offset projects which are designed to meet the strictest international quality standards such as the CDM and Gold Standards. The projects aim to reduce greenhouse gases as well as demonstrate ways to contribute to sustainable development, benefitting both the local population and the climate.

myclimate is also active in setting up carbon assessments, raising awareness about climate change and climate protection through its climate-centric education projects. Some of the better known partners and clients of myclimate include Unilever, SEAT Switzerland, Bosch, Virgin Atlantic, SWISS and Lufthansa.

The Managing Director, Interxion Switzerland, Eddy Van den Broeck, added, “This partnership is not simply about being able to pass on climate-neutral certification to our customers. For us, the quality of the projects was also a top priority, and that is why we opted to collaborate with myclimate. myclimate develops and supports projects that directly reduce greenhouse gases and in so doing, directly protects the climate.”

According to the agreement, Interxion will be offsetting its emissions in carbon offset projects in Switzerland and other countries across the globe. The partnership between Interxion and myclimate includes comprehensive emission calculation, as all emissions are vital for the development, creation, maintenance and operation of data center services. Once the emissions show realistically figured calculations the companies are awarded the climate neutral certificate.
