Delivering low cost voice and broadband data services across wireless networks, Altobridge has received Series C funding of $12 million from Intel Capital and IFC. To accelerate the roll-out of its wireless communications solution, Intel led funding was awarded to Altobridge (News - Alert), allowing them to scale commercially.
Remote communities, enterprises and schools of the worlds’ emerging markets are constantly in need of an ideal wireless communications solution that will satisfy most of their broadband requirement at an affordable price. Altobridge is striving hard to commercialize its mobile broadband solution, Data-at-the-Edge innovative technology, with a demonstrated record for implementation of a low-cost data bandwidth solution on mobile networks.
In a release, Mike Fitzgerald, Altobridge Chief Executive, said, “Our technology enables mobile network operators in emerging markets to cost effectively extend their broadband services to the billion people of the world on the other side of the digital divide. Our Data-at-the-Edge solution reduces mobile network operators’ backhaul requirements by at least 50 percent. This strategic investment by Intel Capital (News - Alert) and IFC will enable us to scale commercially and to advance our R&D to further reduce transmission costs for mobile network operators.”
Marcos Battisti, director of Intel Capital Western Europe and Israel said, “Data congestion in urban area wireless networks and connecting remote communities in rural areas are major challenges for communication service providers. Altobridge has developed the technology and is marketing products that address these issues in a cost-effective way. Our investment in Altobridge will help accelerate the company’s growth and wider adoption of its technology.”
According to Kent Lupberger, IFC Global Head of Telecom, Media and Technology, telecom operators will be able to leverage Altobridge’s affordable, energy-efficient, solar-powered solution to deliver low-cost mobile communication services in developing countries, thus ensuring worldwide economic growth.
Using Altobridge lower capital and lower operating cost voice and mobile broadband services, mobile network operators can provide affordable wireless connectivity among unconnected communities and enterprises. By leveraging patented and patent-pending technologies such as Data at the Edge, Local Connectivity and Split Architecture, Altobridge solutions reduce backhaul and power-consumption costs, thus lowering communications delivery costs for mobile network operators.
