Green is the buzz word around the world. Several companies are investing heavily in making their products energy efficient or making them run on energy efficient networks. These companies and several governments want to make the earth free from carbon-related issues in future.
Allied Electronics, a distributor of electronic components and electromechanical products, announced it will celebrate Green Week 2011 from April 18-22, in honor of Earth Day 2011.
“Allied is committed to environmentally friendly and sustainable operations,” said Lee Davidson, president of Allied, in a statement. “Green Week 2011 provides an opportunity to influence engineers, customers and Allied employees to incorporate sustainable measures in their work and daily lives.”
The company wants to encourage engineers to think green. Allied's Green Week will feature a design competition, a green home page and green acts as part of its green initiatives.
Allied will be holding a Design Green Contest from March 15 to April 15. To receive a $500 American Express (News
- Alert) gift card for the winner and a $250 ThinkGeek gift card for two runners-up each, contestants can submit their environmentally friendly product design ideas. Winners will be announced on Earth Day, April 22.
The company is trying to inspire employees to live greener and, as part of this vision, Allied is promoting the Commit a Billion Acts of Green 2011 Earth Day campaign. Employees can look for ways to reduce, reuse and recycle.
The company will also change the color of its home page from red to green. The website will feature environmentally friendly products for the duration of the week.
Allied is not new to green efforts, however. The company demonstrates its commitment to environmental protection and sustainability year-round at its corporate headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas. The entire building, front office and warehouse utilize the latest in technology and systems to ensure Allied operates an energy-efficient and environmentally friendly facility.
Recently, Allied Electronics announced that it had entered into a partnership with the Fort Worth Section of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE (News - Alert)) to financially support and participate in the North Texas Regional Future City Competition.
