PowerSecure Receives $10 Million in Smart Grid, LED Lighting Awards

PowerSecure International, Inc., a provider of energy and smart grid solutions to electric utilities, and their commercial, institutional and industrial customers, has received $10 million in smart grid power system and LED lighting awards.

Officials with PowerSecure International said that the new Interactive Distributed Generation (IDG) System awards total $7 million, and include installations for a broad base of customers, including hospitals, municipal water systems, educational facilities, and retailers.

Company officials said that the new LED lighting awards total $3 million, and consist primarily of an order from a major U.S. retailer to begin retrofitting refrigerated cases with EfficientLights energy-saving fixtures.

“We are pleased to announce these new business awards for our IDG Systems and LED lighting products. We are excited to announce that a new major retailer has started installing our EfficientLights lighting in their stores, and we are very eager to prove the strong value our product can bring to their operations,” said Sidney Hinton, CEO of PowerSecure, in a statement.

Hinton said that in addition, the company’s new IDG System sales include a nice combination of turnkey and recurring revenue business, with installations for a wide range of customers.

Recently PowerSecure announced its new family of LED-based street lights is seeing strong adoption by utilities and municipalities.

Over the last several months, over 30 electric utilities and municipalities have purchased PowerSecure's new area light, called the "SecureLite.” SecureLite provides utilities and municipalities with an energy efficient, environmentally friendly, low-maintenance alternative to traditional 100 watt HID lighting.

Company officials claimed that SecureLite delivers a 67 percent reduction in energy usage compared to a traditional High Pressure Sodium area light, extends the lighting life three-fold (to approximately twelve years), and provides increased reliability to reduce utility maintenance costs.

In fact, company officials said that the light has been engineered to deliver 30-plus years of service life, including the ability to replace the LEDs in the unit. Additionally, SecureLite was engineered to deliver a better quality of light that enhances visibility, minimizes light pollution, and is Dark Sky compliant.
