Ascom i62 VoWiFi Offers Longer Battery Life

Ascom Wireless Solutions, a provider of on-site wireless communications for key segments such as hospitals, manufacturing industries, retail and hotels, announced that their new VoWiFi Ascom i62 handset delivers longer battery life and enhances enterprise productivity.

The increase in enterprise productivity is achieved with the use of Lite-Fi ultra-low power 802.11n chipset from Redpine Signals, a fabless semiconductor and wireless system solutions company focusing on ultra-low-power and high-performance products for next-generation wireless applications.

“Having seen the clear trend of wireless networks in enterprise based on the 802.11n protocol, we decided to equip our new generation phone with .11n capability,” said Stefan Brämberg, vice president of technology for Ascom (News - Alert) Wireless Solutions, in a statement. “Redpine's pioneering .11n chipset and their Wi-Fi expertise enabled us to solve a number of challenges involved in launching an 802.11n handset.”

The new Ascom i62 VoWiFi handset is available globally. It replaces the previous model, the Ascom i75. The new model offers a new sleek design, high-resolution color TFT display. It offers a longer battery time, and a range of other upgrades.

“Our Lite-Fi chipset used in the Ascom i62 handset includes a host of innovative features that bring high wireless performance, robust connectivity, advanced enterprise wide roaming capability, and extremely low energy consumption,” said Venkat Mattela, CEO of Redpine Signals (News - Alert).

Since the Ascom i62 operates in the 5 GHz and 2.4 Gz bands, the lower traffic density in the higher band reduces non-productive power consumption during packet retries and waiting for transmit opportunity.

Redpine Signals is looking at providing Ascom’s future products with ultra-low power connectivity for upcoming standards.

Ascom offers a range of voice and professional messaging solutions, creating value for customers by supporting and optimizing their Mission-Critical processes.

Back in November, the company announced that it was showcasing a suite of wireless communication solutions at Medica 2010. These solutions are designed to help hospitals deal with managing the costs of personnel, besides improving patient satisfaction, company officials said.
