SGI, a trusted leader in technical computing, recently unveiled a new overclocking platform for the Rackable half-depth server line. With the addition of overclocked CPU configurations, SGI's product portfolio attains a major enhancement. The expansion, according to the company is designed to deliver unique, custom-tailored platforms for customers that require the utmost in high performance computing.
In a press release, SGI explained that the newly introduced overclocking platform is expected to bring increased CPU frequency speeds to high frequency trading, compute, and other applications that require more than the fastest available processors.
According to SGI, SGI Rackable servers are ideal to meet high frequency trading customers' needs for high compute speed, industry-leading energy efficiency, and density.
Regarding the technical specifications, the company explained that this new overclocking platform is designed into the Rackable half-depth 4Uchassis, and is air-cooled for maximum energy efficiency.
The platform is based on a motherboard capable of 3.33 GHz under normal operation and, with the overclocking feature, the processor can run up to 4.3 GHz, depending on the application.
Incorporating a unique, industry-leading approach to thermal management and power efficiency to enable power savings and higher levels of reliability for data center environments, SGI's Rackable half-depth, rackmount servers provide an air-cooled solution with 50 percent or greater density with respect to other solutions on the market, officials at SGI iformed.
In the press release, SGI VP Conor Malone said that for many years, SGI has been providing its customers in high frequency trading best of class platforms. The new solution will further speed up the trading process, claimed the VP.
“SGI has been providing unique solutions for high frequency trading for many years and continues to offer customers the best platforms possible for their applications," said Conor Malone, vice president of engineering at SGI. "This new overclocking platform is a major step forward in speed for the high frequency trading market. Our tradition of building custom solutions, as well as our continued commitment to platform leadership, is evident with this new overclocking solution that will significantly accelerate results for the high performance sector,” Malone noted.
In the release, SGI announced that its new overclocking platform for Rackable half-depth servers is currently available.
It will be relevant to mention here that earlier this month SGI announced an important enhancement in its line of ICE Cube modular data centers (MDCs), in form of SGI ICE Cube Air.
