Green Technology Week in Review

By Erin Monda
TMCnet Contributor

It’s been an exciting week in the world of Green Technology – here are a few highlights from our top stories:

A recent Aperture Research Institute study reported that upwards of 70 percent of organizations have adopted a green initiative of some kind. While those companies should be lauded for their efforts at environmental stewardship, bad days on Wall Street and for the economy have seen some companies abandon or scale back their green initiatives as they tighten their belts. Now is the time to take a realistic look at your company’s green initiatives and ask whether or not the practices undertaken are “evergreen” -- promoting not only environmental sustainability, but also sound business practices and solid return on investment so as to be sustainable in good economic conditions, as well as bad.

In other news, the prestigious Global Green Awards 2010 gala ceremony was held at the Natural History Museum in London. “A Plant in Time” touring garden exhibition, organized by the National Trust and Yorkshire and Clydesdale Banks, claimed the Green Event Award.

mPhase Technologies, Inc., unveiled the completion of the technical work under Phase 2 STTR grant awarded by the U.S. Army for the multi-cell Smart NanoBattery. Company officials added that the team completed the work sponsored by the Army Research Office, which encourages deep technical exploration. The Research Office funds small businesses involved in innovative research projects for miniature energy storage designs, by hastening research and development concepts for long-term commercialization efforts.

IAR Systems  announced that Renesas Electronics’ RX microcontroller architecture is the next target architecture to benefit from the power debugging technology included in IAR Embedded Workbench.

This year, Philippines-based Alternative Indigenous Development Foundation, Inc.'s (AIDFI) Ram Pump Project has emerged as the winner of The World Challenge 2010, a competition organized by BBC World News Limited.
