At the same time, the customers will be helping the environment.
HopeLine from Verizon will support those affected by domestic violence by collecting no-longer-used wireless phones, batteries and accessories in any condition from any wireless service provider. Victims of domestic violence will be provided wireless phones and airtime from the proceeds of the HopeLine program. Local shelters and non-profit organizations that focus on domestic violence prevention, awareness and advocacy will also receive cash grants. Under a zero-landfill policy, phones that cannot be refurbished are recycled in an environmentally sound way.
A staggering 1.6 million no-longer-used wireless phones have been disposed of in an environmentally-sound way by HopeLine from Verizon since its launch. The program has also kept over 200 tons of electronic waste and batteries out of landfills. Verizon Wireless (News - Alert) communications stores across the nation are accepting old phones for recycling. Customers who want to donate their old phones for recycling can also mail their phones. They can use the postage-paid mailing label available at here.
There is also a Verizon Wireless Trade-In Program for individuals who are looking to make a difference on America Recycles Day. They need to log onto the website and follow four easy steps to receive a gift card from Verizon Wireless. Based on the make, model and condition of the device, the customers can determine the appraised value of their devices. On receipt of the device by Verizon Wireless, customers will receive the gift card within two weeks. Customers can either pay Verizon Wireless bills with the gift card or it can be used toward the purchase of phones and accessories.
