The Solar-Powered Keyboard Has Arrived

Logitech (News - Alert) has released a wireless, solar-powered keyboard the company has titled the K750. With two solar panels, energy is stored in a battery that will power the keyboard for a maximum of four months if it does not meet sunlight before then. The keyboard is actually not reliant completely on solar energy – it can charge from indoor lighting as well. Quite cool.

The K750 is also extremely thin, sleek, and impressively designed on top of its lifetime battery-free feature. At 0.28 inches thick, it uses ‘chiclet’ keys for comfort and simple typing.

Denis Pavillard, vice president of product marketing for Logitech’s keyboards and desktops stated, “The keyboard is still the best input device for typing emails and IMs, updating your Facebook (News - Alert) page or posting responses to your favorite blogs – and the Logitech Wireless Solar Keyboard K750 is the next big innovation in keyboard technology.”

The K750 also uses 2.4 GHz wireless connectivity so you rarely have dropouts or delays.  Logitech Advanced 2.4 wireless also includes 128-bit AES encryption with the keyboard. Pavillard added, “The Logitech Wireless Solar Keyboard is powered by light but can work in total darkness for up to three months. Plus, with its PVC-free construction and fully recyclable packaging, it’s designed to minimize its footprint.”

Designed originally for Windows, the keyboard will also work with Apple (News - Alert) computers, and will begin shipping in November of this year in North America. With a pricetag of $80, it is surely a steal.
