G4S Picks Greenstone's Acco2unt Software for Carbon Management

London-based Carbon solutions specialist Greenstone Carbon Management  announced partnership with security solutions provider G4S to help track, manage and forecast future carbon emissions through Greenstone’s Acco2unt carbon management software.

In the words of Matthew de Villiers, chief executive officer at Greenstone, “the complexity and challenges associated with measuring and managing carbon across the global operations of a company the size of G4S is an ideal environment to demonstrate the power and capability of the Acco2unt software.”

Acco2unt allows organizations to review the impact of carbon emissions during current operations and also model and forecast emissions for any planned business growth, company officials stated.

The software enables them to measure, manage, plan, store and report emission data, track performance on their carbon footprint at multiple organizational levels and to accurately model carbon footprint reduction strategies.

It provides calculations on an extensive list of emission sources covering energy, refrigerants, travel, freight, waste, water and ICT. With this it reduces the burden of auditing and reporting for compliance purposes, for stakeholders and customers.

Featuring an extensive CO2re knowledge database, the software provides the latest climate change impact factors according to national and international protocols e.g. GHG, Defra, CRC, Bilan Carbone, company officials added.

With over 600,000 employees delivering services to governments and private sector clients in more than 100 countries G4S required an easy-to-use platform to delegate data collection to country and operating unit levels across the business.

Greenstone software helps G4S automatically calculate carbon emissions at multiple organizational and business unit levels using both the GHG Protocol and, where relevant, national calculation methodologies.

G4S is also able to apply its focus on identifying targeted carbon reduction initiatives and meeting internal and external reporting demands across the business. Acco2unt will also enable local country teams to set their own reduction targets and monitor performance over time.

Nigel Lockwood, communications manager at G4S, said, “As a large multinational organization, managing our carbon emissions is a complex process. Acco2unt simplifies the process by allowing our environmental coordinators around the world to upload data in a consistent format to one centralized place.”

Acco2unt enables G4S to significantly reduce the time spent on data capture and analysis, allowing them to increase their focus on carbon reduction activities and achieve their business goals, Lockwood added.

“As we operate in 110 countries, we also need to be prepared for localized compliance regulations as they come into force,” Lockwood said. “By working with Greenstone we can keep abreast of regulatory developments and minimize our potential compliance risk.”

“In a world of multiple stakeholders, multiple protocols and numerous reduction initiatives Acco2unt is able to provide clear consistent management information across all levels of the company and enable carbon management activities,” Matthew de Villiers added.

Earlier this year, Greenstone Carbon Management added the Carbon Disclosure Project report requirements to its carbon management software Acco2unt. Read the full report here.
