APS' Renewable Energy Initiatives Earn Recognition

Arizona Public Service Company (APS) claimed that its efforts to increase awareness about renewable energy have earned recognition from two prestigious organizations: the Solar Energy Power Association (SEPA) and the Center for Resource Solutions (CRS).

APS deployed programs with the objective to take Arizona on a path where renewable energy plays an important and increasingly larger role.

Recently APS received the Utility Innovation in Solar Program Design award for its Community Power Project – Flagstaff Pilot. The program is to study the impact of operating a high concentration of solar energy systems along a single distribution line. As part of the program more than two hundred residential and commercial customers in northeast Flagstaff will deploy APS-owned and maintained rooftop photovoltaic systems and in return will receive fixed energy price for 20 years.

APS created The Renewables, the World's Most Sustainable Superheroes that include Solar Man, Wind Woman, Guyzer (geothermal energy), Bio (biomass) and Tank (hydro). The mission of these superheroes is to enlighten masses about the advantages of renewable energy and efficient energy. The Renewables characters appear on posters, book bags, t-shirts, trading cards and in a comic book.

For this the company received SEPA's Utility Community Outreach and Public Awareness award. CRS named ‘The Renewable’ program as ‘The Best Green Power Education Outreach Program.’ The CRS Green Power Leadership awards recognize effective and unique outreach programs focusing on education related to green power.

CRS is proud to recognize APS and The Renewables campaign for its creative and positive approach to educating young people about renewable energy, said Arthur O'Donnell, CRS executive director, in a press release. The Renewables serve as modern, high-impact icons for the clean energy business, while adding a dimension of fun to the process.

In related news, APS recently pilot tested self-healing grid technology to reduce outage duration.
