Call2Recycle, the only free battery and cell phone collection program in North America, is organizing a household battery collection drive and has roped in hockey legend, Guy Lafleur, to promote the battery recycling program. Everybody from the Greater Toronto Area is being requested to recycle used batteries and cell phone by dropping them off at the CN Tower on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010,h between 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. As per the organizers, Torontonians should search their homes exhaustively including their basement, junk drawers and storage spaces so as to leave no stone unturned.

As an incentive for the effort given, the hockey legend will be present at the collection drive to sign autographs, take photos and reward fans as well give away hockey memorabilia during the Blue Jays vs. Orioles pre-game festivities. In a press release, Joe Zenobio, executive director of Call2Recycle Canada, commented, “We've been helping Ontarians divert rechargeable batteries from landfills for more than a decade, and this summer we expanded our program to include collection of all household batteries throughout the province. We hope that our expanded program will help Ontarians make battery recycling a part of their green habits.”

At the collection drive event, an autographed postcard of Lafleur will be given to each person with at least one battery to recycle. Those who recycle two kilograms of batteries will receive an 8x10 autographed photo while those with 10 kilograms of batteries will receive a signed hockey stick. An autographed Montreal Canadians #10 hockey jersey will be awarded to those who brings around 50 kilogram of batteries while those with 250 Kilograms or more will receive a chance to win a weekend trip for two to Montreal during winter 2011.

Call2Recycle strives to educate everyone in North America through MyCall2Recycle, a consumer awareness campaign, stressing on the importance and ease of battery recycling. Apart from the collection drive event, household batteries weighing less than five kilograms can also be recycled at any of any of 200 Call2Recycle's collection sites throughout the Greater Toronto Area. Operated by the non-profit Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation, Call2Recycle helps advance green business practices and environmental sustainability by promoting eco-safe reclamation and recycling of rechargeable batteries and cell phones.
