BRIEF: Funding gives entrepreneurs in Whitewater a boost
Feb 05, 2013 (The Wisconsin State Journal - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
The Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. will provide $150,000 to the Whitewater Community Development Authority for early stage capital to local entrepreneurs.
The WEDC's Capital Catalyst program provides grants to regional organizations or communities to leverage matching funds to provide seed funding for startup and emerging companies. On Tuesday the CDA presented $10,000 grants to Date Check Pro, a Whitewater software company that has developed a program for stores to track product expiration dates, and Got Apps, an application development company in the city.
The funding to the CDA is the second investment made by the WEDC with its Capital Catalyst program in a regional fund. The Innovation Fund of Western Wisconsin in Eau Claire received funding in October.
Under the program, funds are to be invested in Wisconsin innovation-based businesses. Sectors of focus include advanced manufacturing, agriculture, food processing, information systems and software, medical devices and renewable and green energy.
