Credit union robbery suspect sought

Nov 17, 2012 (Aiken Standard - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The Aiken Department of Public Safety has identified a man they believe robbed the same credit union on two separate occasions.

Warrants have been issued for Clarence Junior Green, 32, who has been charged with two counts of bank robbery for the Sept. 21 and Nov. 13 robberies of the South Carolina State Credit Union located at 210 Beaufort St.

Green is described as a black male, 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighing 240 pounds, according to a statement from Aiken Public Safety. A current address is not available for Green, but he is known to loiter and frequent area motels.

Around 12:15 p.m. on Nov. 12, a man entered the bank, approached a teller and demanded money, police have said. After receiving an unknown amount of money, the man fled the scene in a red or burgundy colored Ford Tempo.

The man did not present a weapon, and police do not believe he was armed.

On Sept. 21, a man entered the same credit union just after 9 a.m. and told a teller he wanted to open an account. The teller told him he needed to provide a Social Security card. The man left and returned a short time later and gave the teller a note demanding money.

In that case, the man indicated he had a gun but never showed a weapon, police said. Authorities said they believe the man fled the scene toward Richland Avenue and left in a faded blue Crown Victoria with two other men.

No injuries were reported in either robbery.

Anyone with information about either of these crimes or about Green's whereabouts is asked to contact Aiken Public Safety at 642-7620. Individuals also should call CrimeStoppers of the Midlands at (888) CRIME--SC. Callers can remain anonymous and will be eligible for a cash reward between $50 and $1,000.

Teddy Kulmala covers the crime beat for the Aiken Standard. He is a graduate of Clemson University and hails from Williston.
