World leading consumer electronics fair IFA starts in Berlin

World's leading trade show for
consumer electronics and home appliances IFA officially opened its
door to public here on Friday, highlighting new trends of human
digital life with 3D televisions, tablet PCs and various tech
gadgets.
The fair, which started in 1924 as "Grand German Broadcast
Fair, " has been traditionally viewed as a platform for new
products and revolutionary innovations that will lead the future.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel announced the opening of show in a
ceremony on Thursday evening.
This year marks IFA's 50th anniversary and registers its
largest gathering ever. Some 1,423 exhibitors were represented on
the trade show, breaking the record in 2008, when 1,245 companies
and associations attended the trade show.
Organizers said they had to set up an additional hall to
accommodate all exhibitors, and the display area was expanded to
134,400 square meters, an 11 percent increase from last year.
Technical experts said that big stars this year in the fair
would be next generation televisions. One type of them is with
advanced three dimension technologies, and the other has
integrated itself with Internet connections.
Walking in the display zone of the fair, one can easily see
people wearing black glasses and experiencing 3D TVs, cameras and
laptops. Giant manufacturers, such as Sony Corp and Panasonic,
have rented enormous room to show their latest 3D products, which
can put movies, cartoons, sports, and games into vivid 3D images.
Hybrid televisions, which merge television with Internet
capability, would allow users to view countless programs on-demand
at any time and make a video dialogue with friends online before
the screen. Some experts forecast that it would dramatically
change the way of home entertainment.
About 520 Chinese companies and business associates came to the
fair, including 61 from Taiwan and 57 from Hongkong. Haier, the
world's leading white goods brand, presented its environment
friendly washing machines, which could reduce electricity
consumption up to 20 percent, save water and reduce noise up to 30
percent.
China's Huawei, the world's leading networking and
telecommunications equipment provider, launched its IDEOS, or
U8150 smartphone during the fair. The phone has applied Google's
Android platform version 2.2, with a 2.8-inch touchscreen and the
relatively low costs ranging from 100 dollars to 200 dollars.
The fair will be held from Sept. 3 to 8. One day ahead its end,
Google Chief Executive Eric Schmidt will deliver a keynote speech.
