MVISION: mvision Powers Collaboration and Training at Terrence Higgins Trust

London, UK, May 18, 2010 (M2 PRESSWIRE via COMTEX) -- mvision today announced that leading HIV and sexual health charity, Terrence Higgins Trust has deployed its managed video conferencing service and realised a reduction in business travel as well as enhanced collaboration between its 18 national offices and NHS co-locations. The Trust is also using its video conferencing solution to deliver new government information governance and health and safety training to staff and volunteers across the UK.

Phil Williamson, ICT & Programme Management Director at Terrence Higgins Trust explained, "With numerous locations across Britain, and with the NHS outsourcing more and more contracts to us, we really needed a tool to bring co-workers together more often and with greater ease. And video conferencing has done just that. We now have more meetings, that are shorter and more focused," continued Williamson.

"We're definitely a leaner organisation now. We can act much quicker and we're far more agile when it comes to decision-making." Without the available bandwidth or budget to build its own video conferencing network, Terrence Higgins Trust turned to mvision who recommended and installed Cisco-TANDBERG desktop units across 18 of the charity's offices, all connected to the mvision dedicated network. This enables video conferencing to be run completely independently of the main IT network at Terrence Higgins Trust, using separate bandwidth and connectivity.

Using a managed service has not only eliminated the technical hurdles commonplace with video conferencing, but allows the users to get help at the touch of a button. The cost is operational rather than a capital expense, so it is also easier for Williamson to predict, manage and justify on the balance sheet too. It also meant that a quick deployment was possible; just two months from decision to going live.

Terry Dwyer, Managing Director at mvision added, "According to Terrence Higgins Trust, the main business value is in the application of their video conferencing systems. It accelerates the way it does business. The finance teams for example use it for budgeting meetings and can view spreadsheets on-screen and collaborate with them in real-time," continued Dwyer. "Its fundraising efforts are also greatly impacted by being able to meet with supply chain partners such as leading clothing company, Levi's, who are a major donor." Business travel has reduced too. Replacing many of the regular journeys between Glasgow, Aberdeen and Inverness with video conferencing the Director of Services in Scotland at Terrence Higgins Trust has reduced the amount of time she spends on the road by around two thirds.

Almost half of the 400-strong team are now regular users of the managed video conferencing service at the Charity, and demand continues to grow. Over the coming months, Terrence Higgins Trust plans to deploy a Cisco-TANDBERG Content Server for the chief executive to record messages and sessions for the entire team and international partners to view on-demand.
