Cinterion Wireless (News - Alert) Modules, a supplier of cellular machine-to-machine, or “M2M,” communication modules, has supplied over a million of their MC55i modules and the number is only increasing.

According to company officials, following up the successful MC55/56 wireless modules, the MC55i offers improved functionality while remaining compatible with its predecessor. Alongside highest reliability and quality the new MC55i comes with an optimized feature set. The module packs a Quad-Band GSM/GPRS baseband and TCP/IP connectivity based on GPRS Class 10 data transmission into a very small form factor and features even more stable but still compatible mount, full shielding, and small size to offer the benefits of utmost reliability and robustness to developers.

Cinterion Wireless Modules CEO, Norbert Muhrer, said that the company had designed MC55i with versatility in mind for a wide range of applications and industries. Improvements in size, processing and operations in extreme environmental conditions combined with Cinterion’s commitment to intelligent design and a farsighted, sustainable product road map helped push this module past the millionth module shipped mark with no signs of slowing down.

According to the company, MC55i comes as all-round module suitable for a host of fields: security, vending, metering, gateways, remote maintenance and control, routers and a great deal more. The Quad-Band technology allows the module to be used anywhere in the world.
