WORLD BANK GROUP: Managing Director Juan Jose Daboub Announces Departure
WASHINGTON, D.C, Jan 22, 2010 (M2 PRESSWIRE via COMTEX) --
World Bank Group Managing Director, Juan Jose Daboub, today announced he will be leaving the global development institution this summer after completing his four-year term. Mr. Daboub is departing the Bank to pursue other opportunities in the international arena.
'It has been an honor and a privilege to work to create opportunities to help people take destiny into their own hands and build brighter futures in the countries we serve. I have really enjoyed my time and learned a tremendous amount from the remarkable staff members who are global leaders in the field of development. In my next endeavor, I hope I will be able to continue this kind of important work,' said Mr. Daboub.
Mr. Daboub joined the Bank for a four-year term as Managing Director in 2006 after a distinguished career in academia and in the public and private sectors, including most recently as Minister of Finance and Chief of Staff in El Salvador. He brought to the Bank a track record of leadership, innovation and results, as well as hands-on experience from a country coming out of conflict.
Mr. Daboub's work as Managing Director included supervising operations in four of the Bank's regions: the Middle East
and North Africa, East Asia and the Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean and Africa. He also managed operations in the Sustainable Development Network, the Human Development Network, the Information System's Group and the World Bank Institute.
'Throughout, he has exercised sound judgment, a commitment to effectiveness and efficiency, and to leveraging our support for the clients we serve. Juan Jose has been a passionate advocate for market reforms that remove institutional and regulatory barriers to competition, improve business environments, and attract private investments that create jobs. I would particularly like to thank him for the close working relationships he has established with and the support he has given to several partner countries in boosting private sector led growth,' said World Bank Group President, Robert B. Zoellick.
As Managing Director, Mr. Daboub drove a number of corporate initiatives and amassed a significant body of achievements: leading the World Bank Group's Governance and Anti-Corruption agenda, contributing to the internal reform agenda; spearheading change and reorganization of the Information Systems Group and the Department of Institutional Integrity, and helping to champion the Bank's Arab World Initiative.
'My commitment in my remaining time at the Bank is to continue to work for the clients that need our support, including countries like Haiti, where we have a critical role to play in rebuilding lives,' said Mr. Daboub.
