SEN. VOINOVICH TO HOLD CONFERENCE CALL ON LANDMARK DEBT REDUCTION TASK FORCE
Legislation Modeled After Voinovich-Authored SAFE Commission Act
WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator George V. Voinovich (R-OH) joined Senate Budget Committee Chairman Kent Conrad (D-ND) and Ranking Member Judd Gregg (R-NH) at a landmark press conference today to unveil the Bipartisan Task Force for Responsible Fiscal Action Act of 2009. The legislation, which would establish a national commission to examine our tax and entitlement systems and present long-term solutions to place the United States on a fiscally sustainable course, is closely modeled after Sen. Voinovich's own Securing America's Future Economy (SAFE) Commission Act.
Sen. Voinovich worked closely with Sens. Conrad and Gregg during the crafting of the new legislation, and will hold a conference call with media TODAY to discuss how the idea of a debt reduction commission is gaining momentum, recently being endorsed by President Obama.
In a recent Budget Committee hearing Sen. Conrad stated, "Senator Voinovich has been as committed as any member to the need to deal with our long-term debt. And Senator Voinovich has not just talked about it. He has not only talked the talk, he has walked the walk, and he is before us with a specific proposal. And over and over and over, Senator Voinovich has demonstrated his commitment to doing something serious and significant to get our long-term debt under control."
