People Spotlight: Deidre Schlunegger: President and CEO, Make-A-Wish Foundation of Oklahoma

The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Oklahoma has named Deirdre Schlunegger as its president and chief executive officer.
She recently served as vice president of chapter relations for the Breast Cancer Network of Strength (formerly Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization) in Chicago, which she called home for 15 years.
Prior to that she worked at two not-for-profit agencies as well as serving as executive director for a Chicago domestic violence organization (Oprah did her show at the shelter) and at other agencies and youth programs in the city.
Schlunegger also served as director of Child Life in a number of hospitals around the country, was director of a Head Start program in Chicago and started a program for mothers and children at Cabrini Green.
She is fluent in Spanish and led a children's CD translation project for Noel Stookey of Peter, Paul and Mary (Stookey is Paul).
A native of Tulsa, Schlunegger graduated from Bishop Kelley High School. She earned her bachelor's degree from Colorado State University in Ft. Collins and completed her Child Life internship at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Md. She also completed a program in nonprofit management at Kellogg School of Business in Chicago.
Schlunegger served with several agencies in Chicago, including the Chicago Mayor's Office Advisory Council on Domestic Violence.
She is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals in Tulsa and Oklahoma City.
Deirdre's daughter, Shannon, lives in Tulsa with her husband
and four children; son Rob lives in Broken Arrow with his wife and their six-month-old son; and her youngest son, Ryan, just returned from studying and teaching abroad and has begun his doctoral degree work in Arizona.
