Apologise to Anenih, Group Tells Oshiomhole
Benin, Nov 09, 2009 (Vanguard/All Africa Global Media via COMTEX) --
A socio-cultural group in Edo State, Association for a Greater Edo State, weekend urged Governor Adams Oshiomhole to tender an unreserved apology to the former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, Chief Tony Anenih, over what it described as alleged personal attack on him.
National Coordinator of the group and former governorship aspirant of the PDP, Chief Ewie Aimienwau, who spoke to newsmen in Benin City, urged the governor to embark on campaigns that would bring the people of the state together.
According to the group, it is normal for the governor to criticise the PDP, but not launch a personal attack on the national leader of the party.
"We want the Comrade governor to apologize to our political father who is his supporter and one who has called him son publicly in recent times.
"Comrade Oshiomhole, as the chief security officer of the state, should not encourage personalization of politics, abusive campaigns, religious bigotry and all such cheap mobilization techniques which can rapidly degenerate into acrimony and breakdown of law and order
"Being one of the leading lights and public figures standing tall in the annals of Nigerian trade unionism, I do not expect him to condescend to the level of student cult burial and pouring of aspersion on his elders.
"Chief Tony Anenih deserves utmost respect and reverence from every Edo person because of his contributions to our democracy and the state."
Suing for peace in the forthcoming 2011/2012 elections in the state, the group said the governor and other likely contestants should confine themselves to issues of accountability, sustainable growth and development that will ensure dividends of democracy to the people of the state.
