TAIWAN'S FAR EASTERN TEXTILE TO PRODUCE ECO-FRIENDLY PET BOTTLES
TAIPEI, Jul 10, 2009 (AsiaPulse via COMTEX) --
In response to increased demand
for beer and other beverages in Taiwan and China, the largest
textile maker in Taiwan plans to produce family-size
eco-friendly polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles next
year, a company spokesman said Wednesday.
The total output of packaged drinks in China amounts to over
100 million tons annually and is expected to increase, said
Johnny Shih, vice-chairman of Far Eastern Textile Ltd., at a
press conference to promote PET-bottled beer in Taiwan.
Shih said the company has trademarked the PET bottles under
the name CoolerPak and is marketing them as a lightweight, easy
to carry method of transporting beer. In addition, the bottles
are recyclable, thereby helping to preserve natural resources
and reduce waste.
Far Eastern estimates that the company could produce up to
300 million beer bottles per year if plant production can
achieve full capacity, Shih added.
At present, Sino Belgium Beer (Suzhou) Ltd., a Far Eastern
joint venture with Belgium-based Brouwerij Martens, produces
the CoolerPak bottles with a volume of 500 cc.
Once the management technique and the production environment
have matured, however, the company hopes to add its own
production line to manufacture family-size PET bottles, he
said.
