ABB, a manufacturer of power and automation technology, has announced that it is including a new integrated solar power plant generation plant controller and smart grid interface.

The company will make the new technology available as part of its Concentrated Photovoltaic (CPV) system.

“Our CPV system advances the state of the art in the solar industry for smart grid. It provides all of the communication and control needed for today's most advanced smart grid capabilities,” Bob Stojanovic, director of solar power solutions for ABB said. “In addition, because it is fully integrated, it provides capabilities not currently available for any other solar plant, providing the next level of intelligence for the grid.”

ABB aims to provide a complete, integrated solution for managing solar power. The parameters that operators can control include voltage, frequency, real power, reactive power, power factor and other parameters.

Operators can also see what every component in a plant is doing to keep costs under control. They can examine UPSs, as well as low and medium voltage switchgear, transformer signals and security equipment, as well as energy meters, transformers and weather stations. Real-time and historic performance data is available for every component.

ABB has also recently opened a new high voltage cable factory in Huntersville, N.C. “With the addition of the Huntersville plant, we have clearly established ourselves as a key player in the U.S. energy industry,” Enrique Santacana, president and CEO of ABB Inc. and region manager for North America, said. “The top-notch talent from local universities and proximity to a modern transportation infrastructure, quality of life for our employees and a growing community made the decision to open a facility in Huntersville an easy one. By investing in the local economy, ABB is giving back to the Huntersville community that so graciously welcomed us.”
