AEG PS' 1000V Solar Inverter Units Receive Certification for Meeting Product Safety Standards

AEG Power Solutions (AEG PS) has said that its Protect PV.500-UL is one of the market’s select few 1000V solar inverter units to receive certification for meeting product safety standards for connection to the United States power grid.

Juergen Schiele, solar research and development director at AEG PS, said it was important for the company to not only test to UL 1741, but obtain full certification from a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory.

Company modified its field-proven product to incorporate UL components and space requirements, and performed rigorous tests further demonstrating its commitment to safety and quality for the products that it offers globally, Schiele said.

Ideal for utility-scale photovoltaic (PV) applications, the Protect PV.500 inverter boasts efficiency greater than 98 percent, exceeding expectations for its power class, according to company officials.

In addition, it comes with grid management features capable of adapting to the unique requirements of the utility. The inverter also offers three unique ways to provide reactive power control: adjustable settings for Low Voltage Ride Through, provisional ramp parameters for start and stop operations, and remote power control.

The power stack with advance-design measuring and control technology is one of the main features of the PV product line. Company officials said this feature enables DC input voltages of up to 1000 VDC.

Moreover, the UL-certified Protect PV.500-UL also meets utility code requirements and facilitates Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) approval.

Horst Kayser, CEO at AEG PS, expects the company can now address the U.S. market with a fully certified inverter. “Our strategy is to compensate for solar market contractions in Europe by establishing ourselves in growth regions such as Eastern Europe, India, Africa and North America,” he said.

TUV Rheinland tested and certified the Protect PV.500-UL as outlined in the UL 1741 standard for solar inverter equipment.

Earlier in July, AEG Power Solutions signed a major contract with Vienna-based Activ Solar. This deal covers photovoltaic utility scale equipment and services for a minimum of 170 MW until the end of 2013. It is an extension of the first agreement signed in the second half of 2010, covering the complete electrical systems for 14 PV power plants, each of approximately 20 MW.
