Triple Threat: Merger of Enerworks and Enersol Offers Three Solar Options Under One Roof

Enerworks and Enersol Solar, both based in Woodstock, Ontario, have agreed to a merger that will offer a choice of three solar technologies under one roof.

Enerworks Inc. is a supplier of flat-plate and vacuum tube thermal solar collectors for residential and commercial heating and cooling solutions. Enersol is a vendor of unglazed solar panels for swimming pool heating.  Both will operate hereafter under the name, Enerworks, but retain the Enersol brand name for its new product line.

Enersol has relocated to the Enerworks manufacturing plant in Woodstock in order to take advantage of its showroom and training facilities.

"By having such a range of technologies, this allows us to work with our customers and provide them with the perfect solution to their needs" said Suni Ball, managing director of Enerworks.

Enerworks was formed in 1998 to commercialize solar industry solutions for water heating, and was acquired in early 2011 by Bill and Tony VanHaeren , both with year of solar experience, starting with the thermal solar provider Proterra Solar.

"It's great to have a new home for Enersol," said Colleen Simmons, the company's president and team manager. "This business has been in my family for the last 30 years; it's great to see it with a new family, so it can continue to grow and flourish."

Simmons, who intends to stay with the team, will focus on the new Power Plant product, heating the roots of plants in greenhouses, as opposed to heating the entire space.

"This is a great move for the solar thermal industry in North America," commented Nik VanHaeren, president of Enerworks. "Making solar hot water more recognized and utilized is great for the industry and for our environment.”

EnerWorks has installed 640 of its solar collectors at the Fletcher Business Park in Fletcher, North Carolina, providing solar thermal heating and cooling for the industrial/commercial warehouse and offices.

Ontario, home to the company’s HQ, is a hub for renewable energy development in Canada. On March 22, the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) and Ministry of Energy completed a mandated biennial review of the province’s Feed-in Tariff (FIT) program and announced plans to pull back slightly on subsidies, while pushing ahead to meet renewable energy targets.

Following a thorough assessment, including feedback from nearly 3,000 community members and organizations, the government renewed and reinforced its commitment to clean energy, moving the date for achievement of the province’s 10,700-megawatt (MW)  renewable energy target from 2018 to 2015.

The province also announced plans to create a Clean Energy (News - Alert) Economic Development Strategy to use Ontario's expertise to become a global leader in the sector. To date, the province’s clean energy strategy has attracted more than $27 billion in new investment and economic opportunities. More than 20,000 clean energy jobs have been created to date and Ontario is on track to create 50,000 more.
