Under a public-private partnership, PsomasFMG recently offered a turnkey solar solution to Palmdale School District. The solar power systems from PsomasFMG are being installed at 18 of the district's 24 schools. The district’s Los Amigos School recently hosted the ribbon-cutting celebration for these green installations. The event was attended by civic officials and business leaders, who appreciated this eco-friendly initiative and congratulated the school district officials on their vision.
According to a press release, PsomasFMG arranged for project financing free of upfront costs to the school district. On completion of the three-phase, 5.873 megawatt project, the solar plants will be managed by the company.
The solar project features an installation of 25,536 PV panels that are mounted atop steel-frame canopies and provide shaded parking for 1,625 vehicles. The systems have been installed in eight sites. All of them are scheduled to be fully operational by the spring of 2012. Each site will be less than one megawatt.
The solar power installation will be producing green electricity for the PSD and substantially reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The project will go a long way to help PSD achieve energy independence.
Palmdale School District Trustee Jeff Ferrin said that PSD's green initiative will result in long-term energy savings. The extra money can be used to create funds for sponsoring student programs and extracurricular activities. By providing more than 80 percent of the school district's electrical needs, the installation is estimated to save the PSD millions of dollars over the term of a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).
Southern California Edison (News - Alert) will supplement the school district's remaining energy requirements. The project will also provide shade for school site parking lots.
“Today is a momentous step for the Palmdale School District as we celebrate the implementation of our vision for energy independence. The school district's solar initiative will provide for a cleaner, greener future that will reduce our carbon footprint,” superintendent of Los Amigos School Roger Gallizzi noted in a statement.
Schools that will be generating solar power under this project include the Aerospace Academy, Barrel Springs, Buena Vista, Chaparral, Cimarron, Desert Rose, Desert Willow, Golden Poppy, Joshua Hills, Juniper, Los Amigos, Ocotillo, Palm Tree, Palmdale Learning Plaza, Quail Valley, Shadow Hills, Summerwind and Tumbleweed.
PsomasFMG is underway on several turnkey installations that will generate up to 20 megawatts of green energy for school districts and public agencies. The company was recently recognized by the California Environmental Protection Agency for its exemplary and innovative green solutions.
Few months back, secretary of the California Environmental Protection Agency Linda Adams, honored PsomasFMG with a Certificate of Achievement in Sustainability for the successful completion of a public-private partnership project for the Antelope Valley Union High School District (AVUHSD).
