Residential and commercial customers often work with electrical equipments which are created to accept various input voltages. But the electrical equipment will use more power than needed if the actual supply is greater than required for normal operation. In such cases, voltage reduction deployments can offer useful energy saving opportunities for the customers. Voltage reduction is suited to be used along with other energy saving electrical equipments.
Recently, Silver Spring Networks, a networking platform and solutions provider for smart energy networks has introduced UtilityIQ Voltage Optimizer voltage reduction (CVR) solution. According to the company, this solution is ideal for utilities to control voltage levels in their smart grids.
Along with Dominion Voltage Inc’s EDGE software, this new solution makes use of real-time, premise-level smart grid data to control voltage levels. It also adjusts grid devices to decrease energy waste.
Offering up to double the energy savings, UtilityIQ Voltage Optimizer makes use of the distributed intelligence all through the standards-based Silver Spring Smart Energy Platform to get even more value from utilities’ current smart grid investments.
“Voltage optimization is a mission critical issue for efficient and reliable day to day operations,” said Anil Gadre, EVP of Products, Silver Spring Networks. “Silver Spring’s standards-based network is able to provide real-time, premise-level data which allows UtilityIQ Voltage Optimizer to generate the insights necessary to make operational decisions and take actions to drive meaningful savings.”
Recently, the company announced the completion of Wi-SUN Alliance interoperability tests for the IEEE (News - Alert) 802.15.4g wireless communications standard.
