None can deny that Green data centers are a need of the hour and the day will come when every business will has to adopt energy saving data center techniques whether they like it or not.

Telehouse, a provider of global data centers and managed ICT solutions, has bought 100 percent renewable energy from UK provider SmartestEnergy and this will be installed in its London Docklands data centre site, which houses the IT infrastructure of almost 500 major international organizations, now purchases 100 percent renewable energy from UK provider SmartestEnergy.

For Tokuji Mitsui, managing director of Telehouse and KDDI (News - Alert) Europe, the move to renewable energy was the natural next step on the green agenda. "The biggest challenge we face at Telehouse is to improve our energy efficiency and reduce our carbon footprint, and in order to support this challenge Telehouse has worked closely with industry leading partners and regulators. We are committed to our environmental responsibilities and continue to work to align our business strategy with our green ethics wherever possible."

According to a press release, the 100 percent renewable energy purchased by Telehouse is generated by projects throughout the UK using a variety of sources including wind, solar, hydropower and anaerobic digestion.

Mitsui continued: "The majority of electricity supplied to us is utilized by our clients, therefore it is integral that we take on initiatives such as the 100 per cent green energy supply, which in turn benefits our customer's credentials by reducing their carbon footprint. We intend to roll out this green partnership initiative with SmartestEnergy to all our European sites in the near future."

SmartestEnergy is the UK's purchaser and supplier of electricity from independent generators. For Telehouse, the move to renewable energy further strengthens its commitment to reducing its carbon footprint. In February this year, the Telehouse London sites were awarded the Carbon Trust (News - Alert) Standard. Based on a stringent, independent assessment, the Carbon Trust Standard certifies that organizations have measured, managed and reduced its carbon emissions across its own operations, and are committed to reducing it year-on-year.
