Metso Corporation, a global supplier of sustainable technology and services for mining, construction, power generation, automation, recycling and the pulp and paper industries, recently announced the signing of contract with a Russian paper mill. The value of the order has not been disclosed.
Under the terms of contract, Metso is going to deliver a biomass-fired BFB (bubbling fluidized bed) power boiler to Arkhangelsk pulp and Paper Mill, one of the largest enterprises of timber industry both in Russia and Europe.
The main auxiliary equipment for boiler and site advisory services will also be provided by Mesto. The new biomass boiler is scheduled to start its operations from the first quarter of 2014.
The new boiler replaces one of the client's existing coal boilers, Mesto revealed in the press release. The new boiler is expected to further increase mill's energy independence and cut present electricity costs.
The new boiler will have a capacity of 60MWth and will use bark and sludge as fuel. With new biomass boiler, the Arkhangelsk mill will obtain an additional amount of own steam and electricity. With the new installation, the mill will be able to significantly reduce its electricity costs. This is expected to give the mill, a specialist in manufacturing paperboard and market pulp, fiberboard, paper and paper stationery products a fast return on investment.
“We are very excited about this project, in which we help our customer to use their mill residuals to produce energy in an efficient and environmentally friendly way,” Kari Remes, general manager at Metso, noted in a statement.
In other news, Metso recently delivered a steam boiler plant to Valio's Lapinlahti production plants. The boiler plant was delivered by the Metso-Wartsila joint venture MW Power. In addition to the boiler plant, the delivery included all of the necessary installations, the commissioning and the Metso DNA automation system. The value of the order was not disclosed.
