A leading global organization offering vertically integrated solutions to the clients in a variety of industries, Shaw Infrastructure and Environment from Edgewood announced that it has run past six other bidder to bag an over 3 million dollar contract from Air Force.

The contract requires Shaw Infrastructure and Environment to assist Stewart Air National Guard Base accomplish its energy independence goal by building a solar energy system at the base.

In a recent press release, Shaw Group clarified that the contract was awarded to it by the Materials & Manufacturing Technology Contracting Division Detachment 1, AFRL/PKM, Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio.

As part of the Department of Defense’s numerous goals relating to increasing its renewable energy use, the National Defense Authorization Act of 2010 has mandated DoD to produce or procure 25 percent of the total installation energy requirement from renewable sources.

Under the agreement, Shaw will first perform an energy audit to determine Stewart AFB's existing energy requirements. The next step involves designing a solar energy system. While designing, the company has to take into account several factors such as the planned electrical grid testing, the base's existing infrastructure and legal requirements. Once a final design is approved, a revised construction schedule will be finalized.

The contract was awarded to Shaw Infratrsucture and Environment from Edgewood on August 30th.

Earlier this month, Engineering and construction company The Shaw Group Inc. revealed its plans about selling its minority investment in nuclear power plant company Westinghouse Electric Co. LLC back to Toshiba (News - Alert) Corp.
