Sky Power Solutions has announced optional Lithium Ion battery packs for storing electric power and providing a backup supply of electricity during periods of electric power outages.

The company’s standalone Solar Electric Generation System allows for installation in remote locations where utility service is not available, according to company officials.

The current heat wave in the United States and associated rolling blackouts indicate the unreliable state of the US electric grid. Company officials said that to help prevent future blackouts as the installed base increases, the company is all set to provide decentralized out flow to the grid.

Thanks to an optional upgrade, users of the Sky Power Solutions, residential, standalone unit will now have the ability to capture and store electric power using Lithium Ion batteries for later use, said company officials.

Sky Power System charges the batteries with power generated from the Sun. Company officials said that when it’s completely charged, power flows out to the grid. Moreover to its users, the Sky Power System provides emergency electricity during power outages.

To increase capacity and add additional backup power, multiple battery packs can be combined. And, during periods of rolling blackouts, the Sky Power Solutions System can automatically transfer the electric load to the installed battery bank to provide users with uninterrupted electric power.

The Sky Power System is being developed at the R & D facilities of Li-ion Motors Corp.

Sky Power Solutions develops and markets the next generation lithium-powered batteries worldwide. It’s a developer of the Sky Power stand alone residential, solar concentrating, electric power generation system.

The company is expected to display a stand-alone residential solar concentrating electrical power generation system during SOLAR INTERNATIONAL 2011 at the Dallas Convention Center in Dallas, Texas from October 17 - 20, 2011.
