Helping customers to keep track of their energy consumption, HP has unveiled some new products and services, the company stated in a press release.

Researchers in HP Labs have designed and deployed a proof of concept for a Home Energy Intelligence Service for remote monitoring and assessment of residential energy consumption patterns. The system combines a simple user interface with cutting-edge data mining and analytics.

HP Labs, the company’s central research facility also released a proof of concept for home energy monitoring research. To track energy consumption by room and appliance, the research includes a tool that uses sensors and HP gateways throughout the home. Enabling electrical use data to be viewed alongside other resources, such as water and gas, it also offers homeowners energy reduction tips, the company stated in a press release.

“The fastest and easiest way to reduce environmental impact, save money and boost productivity is to make the most of the energy we use today,” said Engelina Jaspers, vice president, Environmental Sustainability, HP. “HP provides its customers with the scope and portfolio to deliver a seamless experience for customers who want to manage their energy usage in the connected world.”

Offering consumers and small businesses with a simple way to identify and purchase HP products designed with the environment in mind, HP also introduced the HP EcoSolutions Store, an online resource featuring more than 300 ENERGY STAR (News - Alert)-qualified and EPEAT registered products. To demonstrate how energy efficiency, sustainability and profitability are compatible concepts for consumers and businesses, the company is introducing "Unlocking Your Energy” tour as a global initiative.

Recently, HP announced that the company has jointly developed inertial sensing technology with Shell so that seismic data can be shot and recorded at much higher sensitivity and at ultra-low frequencies. Increasing prospects for discovering greater quantities of oil and gas to meet the world's increasing energy needs, the new onshore wireless seismic acquisition system is designed to provide a clearer understanding of the earth's subsurface.
